A packer-style separator that creates an artificial sump — fluid falls toward the pump intake while gas rises up the annulus, through a 270° slotted lower bypass with 2.2x the flow area of competing diptube bypasses.
Thin Man is a packer-style separator that creates more separation area compared to conventional dip tube separators. Fluid and gas are produced around the dip tube and exit at the top of the separator, allowing an artificial sump to be created — fluid falls toward the pump intake while gas rises up the annulus. The lower bypass housing uses 270° of bypass instead of drilled holes, giving it 2.2 times the flow area of competitors' diptube bypasses.
A larger annular separation area, plus a slotted bypass that shears less than drilled holes.
Thin Man uses the larger annular area around the separator body for gas to break away, instead of the smaller area around the dip tube and outer housing that conventional designs rely on.
Fluid and gas are produced around the dip tube and exit at the top of the separator. That creates an artificial sump: fluid falls naturally toward the pump intake while gas rises up the annulus.
The lower housing has more flow area around the inner tube, for more laminar flow through the separator. The 270° slotted bypass induces less shearing than drilled holes and gives 2.2x the flow area of a competitor's diptube bypass.
Every connection is threaded — nothing on the tool is welded. That makes it operationally safe to run in, pull, and set anywhere along the curve, without the added risk a welded joint carries under bending load.
Thin Man can be paired with Vannevar's Auto-Jay AD-1 anchor packer, which sets to the right, releases with downward motion, and operates in tension, with the option of Vannevar's proprietary Anchor Guard technology to keep solids from collecting directly on the packer — or it can be run with any industry-standard packer.
